One of the things Ive noticed is the addition of shadows placed around objects, particularly in the out of bounds contests, that might actually reduce the illusion of space.

Ive shown a very simple example of what I mean below. The shadow behind the frog is something I see frequently in the OOB images. To me it diminishes the effect of the frog leaping free of the lily pads and makes it seem as if the frog were a 2 dimensional cutout. I think the elimination of the shadow entirely or placing a shadow on the ground way below the frog on a plane with the lily pads would be a better approach.
